The taxman was coming so they did a data fix - little did they know the controller had a data mining
Oh my God, what happened?
Well in the data fix, they deleted all the fake purchases from the previous period, right… I mean they deleted all the supplier invoices and so the supplier balances went back to zero.
So how could the tax man see that if the transactions weren’t even in the database anymore
It’s the document number. It’s a legal requirement. SAP has a document number that gets incremented every time you post something. So if you go and delete, say 10000 documents from your data, you get lots of gaps.
What are gaps?
It’s kinda like document 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12… see? They delete documents 6 to 9 because they were fake.
Wow, and the tax controller can see that amongst all the millions of invoices that we get every year.
Yeah! It’s a little known secret, but it’s actually really easy!
